SFPUC hosts online portals which provide our staff with access to practical information, tools, and resources, as well as opportunities for collaboration on many of our initiatives. Our goal is to provide and share vital information about paths to success within our organization. More importantly, the site, in addition to formal training programs, provides every employee with an opportunity to nurture their respective careers as individual contributors, aspiring managers, or experienced leaders.
Competency Models: A growing collection of competency models, which clearly define the behaviors tied to success across the SFPUC and can be used to guide your professional development and illuminate potential career paths
SFPUC Learning Management System and eLearning Portal: The Learning Management System (hosted by SuccessFactors) is the central online resource for each employee to track their own development through a large selection of eLearning and live training options. Our employees can keep track of their required learning, register for classes they’re interested in taking, or launch one of our thousands of online courses available.
Leadership and Professional Development Library: Access to a significant online library of leadership and professional development resources, including eBooks, business book summaries, academic and management journals, periodicals such as Harvard Business Review and Forbes, as well as publications of the Center for Creative Leadership
Public Library Resources: A partnership with the City Public to encourage access to the thousands of developmental resources hosted by their department.
Professional Development Courses: We offer a number of classroom courses designed to help our employees with their career development which may include interview and presentation skills, resume writing, leadership training and Supervisor Academy. Mentoring: A formal, employee-to-employee mentoring program being designed in collaboration with our employees to ensure its design and scope meets our employees’ needs
Tuition Reimbursement / Employee Development Funds
Many of our employees have access to citywide development funds that can be used to reimburse costs associated with career development from $500 to as much as $2,000 per year! Our employees can take advantage of tuition reimbursement to develop themselves in a number of ways, such as:
- License / Certification Costs
- Membership in Professional Organizations
- Conferences / Professional Meetings
- Classes and Reference Materials
Classes are also available through a citywide program called City University, a partnership with the San Francisco State University College of Extended Learning, San Francisco City College, and UC Berkeley Extension. Through this program our employees can take select courses at greatly reduced or no cost!
