The Sewer System Improvement Program (SSIP) is a 20-year, multi-billion dollar citywide investment required to upgrade our aging sewer infrastructure to ensure a reliable and seismically safe sewer system now and for generations to come.

The SSIP is the culmination of eight years of Sewer System Master Plan planning efforts incorporating valuable feedback from our community.

About SF's Sewer System
San Francisco is the only major city in California with a combined sewer system that collects both wastewater and stormwater in the same network of pipes transporting it to one of three wastewater facilities where it is treated and discharged to the Bay and Pacific Ocean.
